A variety of consulting services are available from Mike Smithwick. Not only is he the author of Distant Suns, an astronomy best seller on the market since 1987, he has produced software for NASA, JPL, Apple and other organizations.

Mike has written and produced Distant Suns on 3 platforms : Windows -95, Macintosh and Amiga. This included writing the manual and designing the box and magazine ads. He also has experience in UNIX, JAVA, VRML 2, EAI, Direct-3D, Quickdraw 3D, OGL, Apple's RAVE, TAPI, Winsock, Swing, C and C++.

Designing the writing the MP3 broadcast tools for live365.com.
Producing a proof-of-concept demo for Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) showing satellite tracking passes using VRML/Java/EAI.
Prototyping an unannounced Java client/server application for the Air Force flight training.
Writing a Direct-3D immediate mode driver for Apple, to help accelerate Quickdraw 3D on PC platforms.
Porting the Sense-8 Worldtoolkit from GL over to Quickdraw 3D.
Creating a RAVE-based engine on behalf of Apple for the 3DFX Glide rendering library.
Writing a Windows-shell lookalike under C++ for a Windows training package.
Implemented a VRML 2.0 geometry-to-Quickdraw 3D parser/loader under C++.
Developing interfaces for air-traffic control simulations at NASA/Ames research center.
